Understanding hallmarks
Small marks can reveal useful information.
A hallmark may indicate the purity of an item, but worn or unmarked pieces can still be tested professionally.
9ct gold
A common UK jewellery standard containing 37.5% pure gold.
14ct gold
Often found in jewellery made outside the UK and contains 58.5% pure gold.
18ct gold
A higher-purity standard containing 75% pure gold.
22ct gold
Frequently associated with sovereigns and traditional high-purity jewellery.

Can I send white or rose gold?
Yes. The colour comes from the metals mixed with the gold and does not prevent valuation.
What about gold-plated items?
Plated pieces contain only a thin gold layer and may have limited precious-metal value.
Do stones need to be removed?
No. Send jewellery as it is and the valuation team will assess the complete item.
